Welcome To Our Website
As disciples of Christ we should give of ourselves - our time, talents and resources - to care for those in need, wherever they may be. Providing for the poor and needy in the Lord’s way means that the giver helps those who are less fortunate, by giving according to what each has received from God. Each gives freely and with a true spirit of love, recognizing that God is the source of all blessings and that a true disciple is responsible to use those blessings to meet these goals:
March, 2010 - A local church leader began a small humanitarian effort using one classroom and half of the cultural hall of the church during one day of the week. He had learned of a project by a group in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. He and his wife said, “If they can do it, we can do it.” He also saw the vision that what they started here would grow to be much bigger. The goal was to provide a mechanism for individuals to be of service, feel valued, and provide quilts, newborn kits and other supplies for the poor and needy in the community. They also made medical dolls, toys and educational materials for the children.
The first day at this Humanitarian Center began with 25 volunteers. In that first year 6000 items were produced by the center-which were distributed through 10 community agencies. Our records show that 5678 hours were donated through this center that year. The effort grew and expanded over the next few years to where 200-250 people were serving weekly, producing over 25 different products. Through the next few years, the effort expanded to where they were using several classrooms, the entire cultural hall and both foyers for two days of the week. At the end of the second day, they had to pack up and store all equipment and supplies because of the other uses of the building.
March 5, 2013 - The Idaho Falls Area Humanitarian Center, Inc. filed as a non-profit corporation and received its tax exempt public charity status as a 501 (c) (3) organization on September 10, 2013. That year the center produced over 26,000 items and directed 38,000 hours of service on behalf of the poor and needy in our community.
October 6, 2014 - The center moved into a 20,000 square foot building. The goal of the center is to involve more of the community in participating and benefiting from the Humanitarian Center. Our board members and volunteers now represent a number of different Christian churches from the community and volunteers of all faiths are welcomed and encouraged to serve. There were a total of 104,000 hours donated through the Center in 2014.
2015 - In the first four weeks of 2015, the center delivered 5672 items to other agencies for distribution to those in need. We are now producing, or equipped to produce, over 70 different items including Newborn, Bereavement and Hygiene Kits, quilts and lap and therapeutic blankets, medical dolls, toys and educational folder games. These are distributed to those in need through almost 100 non-profit agencies from Ashton to Pocatello.
2017 - 59,167 items were made and delivered, valued at $931,987.00 . There were also over 175,000 service hours given at the center. Please come in and visit us and experience the joy of service.
